Trekking the Dolomites – Northern Italy

FullSizeRender 7 Not exactly a backpacker’s meal at this refuge. You have to work pretty hard to get a bad meal in Italy in my opinion.  Refugio Auronzo. After a quick stop on my road trip in Venice I headed north to Cortina d'Ampezzo BL where I had lunch and figured out where to go on my trek. There are so many places to enjoy a hike and find lodging that it's not worth it for me to explain where to go and how to do it. I was winning it with a rental car through windy mountain roads and hit an absolute home run with zero know how other than my curiosity. After a quick stop on my road trip in Venice I headed north to Cortina d’Ampezzo BL where I had lunch and figured out where to go on my trek. A headlamp was necessary when going through the Via Ferrata WWI era caves.

Via Ferrata “the Iron Way”. Cables used to move troops, supplies, and artillery in the battle on the Austrian/Italian border. Now people like me like to use them to climb around the Dolomites.

Did I mention the food?

Milan Cathedral. A quick stop back in Milan on the way to the airport.
Too close to Austria to not make a stop over via the Autobahn. I spent the night with a bunch of college students enjoying the biergartens.
